The City of North Augusta annually accepts applications for grant funding to support community related tourism expenditures. The projects must draw tourists to the City from a distance of over 50 miles away. 

Applications are currently being accepted for grant proposals. Please download and carefully review the A-Tax Grant Handbook prior to downloading and submitting the A-Tax Grant Application. Proposals shall be submitted for projects and expenses planned during the 2025 calendar year, January 1 - December 31, 2025.

Applications must be received no later than Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Applicants must follow the procedures in the City of North Augusta State Accommodation Tax Handbook when completing this application. A project representative must attend a “Question & Answer Session” with the Accommodations Tax Grant Committee on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the City of North Augusta Municipal Center. After this session, the committee will make the recommendations to City Council during a regular council meeting. Once City Council approves the recommendations, the applicant will be contacted with the final award decisions. Decisions are expected to be made by January 2025.

1. What is the State Accommodations Tax Funding Program? 

The South Carolina Department of Revenue declares that if a municipality collects over $50,000 in Accommodations tax, each municipality will be required to allocate and spend all Accommodations Tax fund that they collect in the manner required by the statute. 

This funding program will allocate 65% of the funds from the collected Accommodations Tax.

2. Who Can Apply for the Funds?

To qualify for funding, project applicants must provide proof of their non-profit status and fall into
one of the following categories:
1. Any governmental agency, board commission or political subdivision other than those
specifically designated as a state agency. OR
2. Not-for-profit organizations as registered with the Secretary of State of South Carolina.
Your “CERTIFICATE OF INCORPORATION/EXISTENCE” must accompany your
application.

3. What is the Tourism-Related Expenditures Criteria?

  • advertising and promotion of tourism so as to develop and increase tourist attendance through the generation of publicity;
  • promotion of the arts and cultural events;
  • construction, maintenance, and operation of facilities for civic and cultural activities including construction and maintenance of access and other nearby roads and utilities for the facilities;
  • the criminal justice system, law enforcement, fire protection, solid waste collection, and health facilities when required to serve tourists and tourist facilities. This is based on the estimated percentage of costs directly attributed to tourists;
  • public facilities such as restrooms, dressing rooms, parks, and parking lots;
  • tourist shuttle transportation;
  • control and repair of waterfront erosion;
  • operating visitor information centers.
