Public Outreach Meeting Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Middle Savannah Basin
September 14, 2016 4-7 p.m. at the Aiken County Government Complex
Representatives from FEMA, the SC Department of Natural Resources and local governments answer questions on the proposed Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for the Middle Savannah River Basin this Wednesday, September 14 (4 to 7 p.m.) at the Aiken County Government Complex in Aiken, SC. Anyone wishing to review a preliminary copy of the maps or obtain information about flood risks and potential insurance requirements that could impact their property or business is invited to attend the public outreach meeting.
The proposed FIRM maps affect the City of North Augusta and other areas in Aiken County. When complete, the maps will be used for permitting and insurance purposes to determine whether properties are impacted by flood hazard zones, often simply referred to as floodplains. A final version of the maps is currently scheduled to become effective by the end of 2016. A link to a location map showing the areas in the Middle Savannah being updated by FEMA and the specific maps can be found here.
